bàn jīn bā liǎng
半斤八两

The original meaning of the Chinese saying is the old one Jin is equal to sixteen Liang in China,so half Jin 半斤(bànjīn)is eight Liang 八两(bāliǎng).Now it means to be six of one and half a dozen of the other.

For example:

Nǐmen liǎngrén bànjīnbāliǎng,shuí yě bùbì qǔxiào shuí .
你们两人半斤八两，谁也不必取笑谁.
There is no choice between both of you,so don’t make fun of the another one.

qígǔxiāngdāng,bànjīnbāliǎng,nán xiōng nán dì .
旗鼓相当，半斤八两；难兄难弟.
It is six of one and half-a-dozen of the other.
